On July 5, KONERGY hosted an in-person nutrition innovation event in New Jersey focused on the shift from single-ingredient supplements to science-based, multi-ingredient formulations.

The event examined changes in consumer expectations, the role of branded ingredients and the principles behind modern supplement formulation.

As the health and wellness market matures, consumers are looking beyond whether a product contains a particular ingredient or provides a high dosage. Ingredient sourcing, quality standards and the relationship between components are increasingly influencing how supplements are evaluated.

KONERGY said the value of a nutritional supplement should not be measured by a single ingredient alone. The company said products intended for ongoing nutritional support should also be assessed according to ingredient origin, quality standards and whether the components are combined around a clearly defined purpose.

“Consumers increasingly want to understand where ingredients come from, why they are combined and how each component contributes to the overall formulation,” a KONERGY representative said.

During the event, the company used a Coenzyme Q10 formulation to illustrate its approach.

Consumers have traditionally evaluated CoQ10 supplements according to dosage and whether the ingredient is included. KONERGY said branded raw materials, sourcing transparency and manufacturing standards are also becoming important considerations.

Kaneka Ubiquinol was presented as the core CoQ10 ingredient in the formulation. KONERGY said the value of a branded ingredient extends beyond the ingredient itself to include its sourcing, production standards and quality management system.

The formulation also combines Kaneka Ubiquinol with PureQQ® PQQ and Magnafolate® active folate.

According to KONERGY, the three ingredients were selected to address related areas within a shared formulation strategy. Kaneka Ubiquinol is positioned to support cellular energy production and daily vitality. PureQQ® PQQ adds a mitochondrial nutrition component, while Magnafolate® active folate contributes to folate utilization and normal nutrient metabolism.

The company said the formulation reflects a move away from treating CoQ10 as an isolated ingredient. Instead, the product combines a core ingredient with complementary nutrients that serve distinct roles within a broader cellular energy and wellness framework.

KONERGY emphasized that science-based formulation does not mean adding as many popular ingredients as possible. It requires a clear nutritional objective, a defined purpose for each component and a logical relationship between the ingredients.

The event also highlighted a broader change in the supplement market. Consumers are increasingly moving from simply reading ingredient labels to considering ingredient origin, quality systems and formulation rationale.

KONERGY said it will continue to focus on ingredient quality, transparent formulations and consumer education as it develops products for modern nutritional needs.

The New Jersey event reflected the company’s view that the next stage of nutritional supplementation will be shaped not only by individual ingredients, but also by how those ingredients are selected and combined within a coherent formulation.
